NEW YORK: The iconic action star is selling his extremely rare Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime via Sotheby’s on June 5, the first time the watch will appear at a commercial auction.

Sylvester Stallone is parting ways with some of his cherished watches, offering 11 luxury timepieces from his collection at Sotheby’s New York on the same date. Among these is the highly sought-after Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, renowned among enthusiasts and collectors as one of the most intricate wristwatches globally, initially fetching $2.5 million.

Beyond Stallone’s celebrity status, what’s bound to captivate attention towards this upcoming sale is the debut appearance of a Grandmaster Chime in a commercial auction.

In 2019, during the Only Watch charitable auction, a unique steel model of the Grandmaster Chime fetched an astounding $31 million, establishing a record. Stallone’s Grandmaster Chime is estimated to fetch between $2.5 million to $5 million, but expectations are it will surpass this range, with the possibility of setting a new record for the highest price attained by a watch at a non-charitable auction.

Acquiring an ordinary Patek Philippe can be quite a challenging endeavour, let alone obtaining a rare piece like the Grandmaster Chime, even for the wealthiest individuals.

Stallone, a dedicated Patek collector, shares in a YouTube video linked to the Sotheby’s auction that he was able to acquire his pristine Grandmaster Chime after personally pleading and corresponding with the Patek board, who then deemed him deserving. Stallone describes purchasing the watch initially as an act of collecting, considering it a “masterpiece” akin to owning a Monet painting, expressing a genuine sense of pride in its ownership.
