TOKYO: The customers at McDonald’s faced trouble in placing food orders, on cellphones and at electronic kiosks in parts of Asia on Friday after a system outage.

The US fast food company in a post on social media site X, formerly Twitter, said it was currently having a system failure in Japan, and suspending operation at many outlets temporarily.

China was also affected from the outage for several hours, making it a hot topic on social media platform Weibo. However, the company later announced restoration of its online ordering system.

McDonald’s in Hong Kong on Facebook wrote that its mobile ordering and self-ordering kiosks are not working but later said its system was returning to normalcy.

In South Korea, the Mconald’s delivery website had displayed an error message saying the service has been temporarily suspended because of regular server maintenance for website stabilization.

According to media reports the outage also hit Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. Whereas India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam remained unaffected.
