Tehran, Beijing Discuss Military Cooperation

ASTANA:  Chinese and Iran defense chiefs discussed means to enhance military cooperation, local media reported on Saturday.

As per media reports, Iran’s Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani met with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun on the sidelines of the 21st meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Ashtiani lauded China’s position on the ongoing developments in the region and its condemnation of Israel’s airstrike against Iran’s diplomatic compound in Damascus, Syria.

Iranian Defense Minister said that China and Iran should boost cooperation to address regional and security issues.

On April 1, the Israel carried out airstrikes on the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Syria, which killed two generals of the IRGC.  In retaliation, Iran targeted Israel on April 13 with a barrage of missiles and drones.
