Textile Exports Earn $11.145 bn in 8 Months

ISLAMABAD: During the first eight months of the current financial year (2023-24), Pakistan has earned $11,145.661 million from exports of textile products, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported here on Saturday.

According to PBS, apart from the recent surge, the exports of the textile product, however, recorded a slight decrease of 0.65 percent during July-February (2023-24) against the exports of $ 11,218.644 million during the same period in the year 2022-23.

The textile products experienced growth comprising raw cotton, the exports of which went up by 353.78 percent, to settle at $55.752 million against last year’s stand of $12.286 million. 

Textile Products Sowing Decline 

Meanwhile, the exports of cotton yarn witnessed an increase of 48.18 percent to reach $ 748.307 million as compared to $ 505.015 million last year whereas the export of towels increased by 3.64 percent, to reach at $ 690.745 million against last year’s figure of $ 666.497. Likewise, the export of bed wear also went up by 2.08 percent to settle at 1,873.008 million against last year’s figure of 1,834.903 million.

The textile items that recorded negative growth in export comprising cotton cloth that went down by 8.71 percent to settle at $1,259.897 million from $1,380.075 million, cotton carded by 32.55 percent, from $0.970 million to $0.654 million; yarn other than cotton yarn by 18.06 percent, from $29.562 million to $24.224 million, and knitwear by 5.69 percent, showing a decline from $ 3,078.882 million to $ 2,903.541 million.

In addition, the exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin went down by 10.72 percent to settle at $77.080 million against $86.332 million last year whereas ready-made garments declined by 2.99 percent, from $ 2,380.837 million last year to $ 2,309.663 million this year.

Meanwhile, on a year–on–year basis, the textile exports witnessed an increase of 19.20 percent to settle at $ 1,407.111 million in February 2024 against $ 1,180.445 million in February 2023.
