NEW YORK: The initial trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI from Rockstar Games has finally arrived, showcasing a fresh twist with a new female lead. Acting more as a tantalizing trailer than a comprehensive reveal, the trailer introduces us to Lucia, a character attributing her incarceration to what she terms as “bad luck, I guess.”

The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI is beyond immense. Rockstar’s previous installment in the car theft saga hit the shelves over a decade ago, and despite a whirlwind of speculations and some leaks in 2022, fans have been starved of official content from the franchise.

Today’s trailer keeps the details scarce. A rapid succession of scenes, set against the backdrop of Tom Petty’s “Love is a Long Road,” showcases beaches, nocturnal revelries, and a considerable amount of intrigue as Lucia collaborates with a partner for a heist. This marks a groundbreaking inclusion of a female antihero in the Grand Theft Auto universe, hinting at a return to Vice City.

Rockstar claims that GTA VI will be the “most substantial, immersive evolution” the series has witnessed. The release is scheduled for 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. According to a 2022 Bloomberg report, the game is expected to feature a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired pair in a fictionalized Miami setting.

Rockstar unveiled the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer a day earlier than planned due to a leak after building up anticipation for a Tuesday, December 5 reveal. The developer urged fans to watch the official release on YouTube after a brief appearance of what seemed like debug footage on TikTok, which was promptly removed.

This isn’t the first time Rockstar has grappled with leaks related to GTA VI. In the previous year, a hacker disseminated a substantial amount of game data, including 90 videos of unfinished development.
