LOS ANGELES: TikTok introduces a fresh, specialized feed dedicated to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), aiming to kindle inspiration among young audiences to envision themselves in various career paths.

This new feed, exclusively showcasing videos exploring STEM subjects, will be accessible alongside the For You page for users in the UK and Ireland starting from Tuesday.

Over the past three years, TikTok reports nearly 15 million STEM-related videos have been shared globally, with certain creators amassing significant followings from individuals intrigued by potential careers in these fields or seeking further knowledge.

The addition of this dedicated feed seeks to motivate young individuals to delve into STEM topics and engage with entertaining and educational content provided by experts actively involved in STEM studies or professions.

Dr. Clara Nellist, a 36-year-old particle physicist at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva, utilizes her TikTok platform to bring her 206,000 followers along as she conducts research involving the collision of protons at nearly the speed of light.

“The introduction of the STEM feed is genuinely thrilling, and the opportunity to share the scientific endeavours at CERN is remarkable,” expressed Dr Nellist, who hails from Coventry and presently divides her time between Amsterdam and Geneva, in an interview with the PA news agency.

“On a personal level, I aspire to connect with individuals who have not previously been exposed to this realm. The STEM feed will potentially introduce science in a relatable manner, with its accessible content and humour, to those who may not have considered it for themselves. It offers a wonderful opportunity for students to envision diverse career paths, and I sincerely hope that many will find inspiration through the content available.”
