Toxic Alcohol Kills 37 in India’s Bihar State

CHAPRA: Official said on Saturday that toxic alcohol had killed as many as 37 people in Bihar state of India, while unconfirmed reports put the death toll at 70. Consuming and selling liquor is banned in many parts of India, and lethal hooch kills hundreds of people annually in India.

Locals said villagers drank a domestically made liquor known as ” Desi Daru at a wedding party on Monday. Relatives of the victims said that many people complained of vision loss, stomach pain, and vomiting after drinking liquor.

Locals said that more than 20 people were dead on Thursday while dozen were hospitalized in serious condition.

600 liters of toxic alcohol seized in India

Police officials told AFP that 37 people had died in Bihar so far. However, he declined to confirm local media reports that the death toll reached 71.

Police have arrested over 100 people for manufacturing and selling illegal liquor during the last three days. Police added that law enforcement agencies in Bihar had seized 600 liters of Toxic hooch.
