Tribute Paid to Versatile Poet, Scholar Shaikh Ayaz on 26th Death Anniversary

KARACHI: The 26th death anniversary of esteemed Urdu and Sindhi poet, fiction writer, scholar, and educationist Shaikh Ayaz is being observed today (Thursday).

Born as Mubarak Ali Shaikh on March 2, 1923, in Shikarpur, Shaikh Ayaz obtained a law degree after doing his graduation. Throughout his literary journey, Sheikh Ayaz authored a total of 60 books, including the Urdu translation of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry titled “Shah Jo Risalo.”

In 1976, Shaikh Ayaz assumed the role of Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University, reflecting his significant contributions to education.

Recognizing his literary achievements, he was honoured with the ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ award.

On December 28, 1997, Shaikh Ayaz passed away in Karachi. Per his will, his mortal remains were interred Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s mausoleum in Bhit Shah.

Shaikh Ayaz’s legacy remains a source of influence and inspiration in the domains of literature and education, highlighting his lasting contribution to Urdu and Sindhi literary traditions.
