Tribute to Heroes: Pakistan to Observe Defence Day with National Zeal Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: To pay tribute to the heroes of the 1965 war, Defence and Martyrs Day is to be observed on Wednesday (tomorrow), across the country. The day remembers the martyrs and heroes of the armed forces who fought gallantly to defend the motherland against Indian aggression.

On this day, the Indian forces crossed the international border in the darkness of night to attack Pakistan, however, the courageous armed forces, fully supported by the entire nation managed to counter the nefarious designs of the enemy.

Observing the day, the nation would remember and would pay huge tribute to all those who fought for their motherland. It was the day for hundreds of heroes, including Major Aziz Bhatti and M. M. Alam. Major Aziz Bhati fought for the country during the battle of Burki in the Indo-Pak War of 1965 till his last breath. He was awarded the highest award Nishan-e-Haider.

M.M. Alam as National Hero

M.M. Alam nicknamed Little Dragon was one of the leading heroes of the War. Alam, who was posted in Sargodha through his F-86 plane, managed to shoot down five Indian warplanes in less than a minute during the war. In total, he managed to shoot down 9 warplanes in the aerial war. Admiring his bravery, Alam has been placed at the top of the Hall of Fame list in the Pakistan Air Force Museum in Karachi

Like Major Aziz Bhatti and M. M. Alam, the day would be observed to remember all those who either became martyred or victories in the war. The day would begin with a 31-gun salute at the federal capital and a 21-gun salute at provincial capitals.

Meanwhile, special prayers would be offered after Fajr in mosques for the progress and prosperity of the country and for the independence of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir from the atrocities of India.

In addition, special events would be held in the federal and provincial capitals and other parts of the country to recall the victorious day and its heroes.
