Tribute to Munnu Bhai on His Sixth Death Anniversary

LAHORE: The sixth death anniversary of the renowned columnist, poet, and playwright Munnu Bhai is being observed today (Friday).

Born as Munir Ahmed Qureshi in 1933 in Abbottabad, he graduated from Gordon College, Rawalpindi, and held various administrative roles in different newspapers. Munnu Bhai’s love for poetry ignited in his early years and evolved into a profound passion.

In 1982, he penned the highly acclaimed drama ‘Sona Chandi’ for PTV, earning widespread popularity. Other notable dramas in his repertoire include ‘Dasht’ and ‘Ashiana.’ Beyond dramas, Munnu Bhai authored numerous columns. Among his renowned literary works are ‘Mohabbat Ki Ek Sau Nazmein,’ ‘Jangal Udaas Hai,’ and ‘Insani Manzar Nama.’

Munnu Bhai also established the ‘Sundas Foundation,’ an organization dedicated to children battling thalassemia, where he served as the chairman. His remarkable contributions to journalism and literature were recognized with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for outstanding services.

On January 19, 2018, Munnu Bhai bid farewell to the world, finding eternal peace in Lahore.
