WASHINGTON: Former US president Donald Trump has arrived in Washington to appear in court on charges of trying to overturn 2020 elections results.

Western media reported that the hearing is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in a Washington, court, and it is highly likely that Trump would not plead guilty in the case.

Special security arrangements have been made on the occasion, and police and sniffer dogs have also been deployed outside the court.

Senior Journalists from the international media have gathered in front of the court to cover the important development. The indictment also lists six unnamed co-conspirators who assisted Trump in his attempts to overturn the election results to remain in power.

US Justice Department seeks speedy trial

Special counsel Jack Smith soon after the development, said the US Justice Department would seek a speedy trial for Trump on charges of overturning the 2020 election.

The former president’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, blames the current US administration for interfering with the 2024 election by targeting Trump. Trump has also been facing charges of mishandling classified documents and plotting to stop government officials from recovering them.
