Tunisia cut off diplomatic ties with Syria around 10 years ago

Tunisia cut off diplomatic ties with Syria around ten years ago to protest Assad’s bloody crackdown on demonstrations seeking democracy in 2011 that morphed into civil war in which millions flee from the country and hundreds of thousands of civilians have thus far been killed.

Since Saied seize nearly all powers in July 2021, which according to his political opponents is a coup, Tunisia has hinted it was open to changing its diplomatic stance with Syria.

Tunisia reinstituted a limited diplomatic mission to Syria in 2017, in part to help track more than 3,000 Tunisian militants fighting in Syria.
