BANJUL, Gambia: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s address at the 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) underscored a pivotal shift in the perception of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Fidan emphasized that the struggle extends beyond regional boundaries, morphing into a global confrontation between oppressors and the oppressed. This sentiment echoes a growing international sentiment, reflecting solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

During his speech in Banjul, Gambia, Fidan stressed that the bloodshed in Palestine should not be a bargaining chip for political negotiations. He urged OIC members to prioritize Palestinian rights above all else, asserting that unity among Muslim nations is paramount in the face of ongoing Israeli aggression.

Fidan’s call for diplomatic and, when necessary, coercive measures to address the plight of Palestinians reflects a sense of urgency within the international community. The Turkish Foreign Minister warned against historical divisions among Muslim states, cautioning that internal discord could jeopardize the collective effort to end Palestinian suffering.

Central to Fidan’s message was the need for concrete action to hold Israel accountable for its actions. He urged OIC nations to exert pressure on Israel to adhere to international law and respect Palestinian sovereignty. Additionally, Fidan advocated for a two-state solution as a means to achieve lasting peace in the region.

The summit agenda includes the presentation of key resolutions aimed at addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and advancing Palestinian rights. Amid escalating violence and widespread displacement in Gaza, international condemnation of Israel’s actions has grown louder. The International Court of Justice’s interim ruling condemning Israeli actions as genocidal underscores the urgency of the situation.

Fidan’s impassioned plea for global solidarity in support of Palestine resonates with the overarching mission of the OIC. As world leaders convene to discuss the crisis in Banjul, the international community faces a critical juncture in its response to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
