ANTALYA:  Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed hope that talks for ceasefire in Ukraine will start soon.

He made the remarks at the end of a diplomatic forum in the southern city of Antalya on Sunday.

Fidan on Friday met his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. He told media that he had discussed a number of matters with Lavrov, including Ukraine.

The Turkish top diplomat went on to say that on the issue of Ukraine, both sides have reached the limits of the war and that the time has come to start a dialogue for a ceasefire.

He added this doesn’t mean to recognize the foreign occupation, but issues of sovereignty and ceasefire should be separately discussed.

NATO member Turkey, which shares a maritime border with both Russia and Russia in the Black Sea, has always tried to have good relations with both Moscow and Kyiv since Russia started war against Ukraine two years ago.

Ankara has provided military assistance to Ukraine and expressed support for its territorial integrity, but also opposes sanctions on Russia.

Fidan went on to say that the death and injury of more than 500,000 people and the complete destruction of the infrastructure of an entire state is not bearable for Turkiye.

He said that the war has to estopped and for this, there should be some discussions.
