ISTANBUL: The President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Hissein Brahim Taha, the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) Secretary-General, in Istanbul on Monday amid the 38th Session of the OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC).
During their brief talk, President Erdogan applauded the efforts made by the OIC, its General Secretariat, and other relevant institutions working in the area of commercial and economic cooperation.
He welcomed the operationalization of the Trade Preferential System (TPS-OIC) which will be helpful to further promote trade connections among the OIC Member States. He also requested to encourage the other Member States to join the System.
The Turkish President also highlighted the issue of Palestine, especially the recent developments relating to the cause of Al-Quds, and asked for stronger collective action in support of the Palestinian cause.
Erdogan also emphasized the need to continue addressing the just case of Muslim communities in the world including the Turkish Cypriots, Kashmiris, Rohingya, Uighurs, and the Turkish Muslim Minority in Western Thrace in Greece. He reiterated the readiness of Turkiye to extend all possible assistance for the efforts of the OIC.
The President emphasized the need for continued efforts of the OIC Member States to reform and reinforce the capacity and role of the Organization and its institutions.
OIC Secretary General Remarks:
During the meeting, the Secretary-General expounded his views on the OIC agenda, especially the political developments including the Al-Quds and other regional and international issues in the OIC Member States.
OIC’s Brahim reflected on the programs and activities aimed at promoting greater intra-OIC cooperation in various domains including the socio-economic development of the member states.
The Secretary-General thanked President Erdogan for the successful chairmanship of the COMCEC, especially the widespread efforts undertaken for the successful results of this session under which a series of economic and commercial happenings are being reviewed and executed.
