ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan has offered to supply electricity and natural gas to Tajikistan, utilizing the territory of Uzbekistan for transit, Trend reported.

Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, conveyed this proposition during a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan. The energy sector emerged as a focal point for potential cooperation between the two nations, with discussions revolving around the export of Turkmen electricity and natural gas to Tajikistan through Uzbekistan.

Berdimuhamedov underscored the readiness of Ashgabat to engage in systematic collaboration, emphasizing the importance of detailed deliberations on technical, organizational, and logistical aspects of the proposed energy supply arrangements.

This proposal builds upon previous discussions held during a summit between the presidents of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in Ashgabat last August. The Turkmen official highlighted the intention to convene a trilateral meeting involving experts from all three countries to further explore and facilitate the proposed energy cooperation.

Berdimuhamedov affirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in petroleum product supplies, expressing readiness to adjust supply volumes in accordance with Tajikistan’s requirements.

The announcement comes amid an official visit by Chairman Berdimuhamedov to the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, aimed at fostering high-level discussions and negotiations between the two nations. The visit saw a comprehensive review of existing bilateral agreements and the signing of new partnership documents, underscoring the depth of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan across various sectors.
