ISLAMABAD: A number of daily commuters living in different housing societies located along the Islamabad Expressway on Sunday demanded an extension in the Blue Metro Bus Service route up to the PWD interchange as a huge chunk of road widening and construction work had been completed on one of the busiest arteries of the twin cities.

The residents of Jinnah Garden, Korang, Pakistan, PWD, Sohan, and other adjacent societies said that the authorities had unveiled the blue bus service route plan from Rawat but delayed it due to the road condition and the subsequent construction and expansion work from Korang Bridge to Rawat.

But now that the work has been completed in this area, a significant number of daily commuters should also be facilitated by the bus service. The mass transport facility should also reach the periphery of outer areas located within thirty kilometers of the main downtown, they said.

Their demand coincides with the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) decision to roll out 160 electric buses on thirteen different routes in Islamabad.

A number of residents also suggested that the blue bus route should also be linked by the establishment of additional passages for electric buses, as announced by CDA, to different commercial and residential areas.

Number of Buses Should be Multiplied

They were of the view that the number of buses should also be increased considering the growing number of commuters who are huddled beyond capacity in each moving vehicle, especially during peak hours, besides extending the bus service hours late at night.

They urged authorities to also consider extending the Blue Bus service schedule during the night to facilitate those individuals who usually work late at night in different offices and places in the capital.
