SHEBAA: Two Lebanese civilians martyred in Israeli shelling on the southern village of Shebaa on Saturday, according to the mayor of the town, marking the latest casualties from Israel’s cross-border fire.

The victims, a man, and his wife in their forties, were killed in their home during the shelling, Mayor Mohammad Saab confirmed to AFP news agency.

Hezbollah along with Palestinian factions in Lebanon, has engaged in cross-border exchanges with the Israeli army.

The situation escalated further on Saturday when Hezbollah announced it had shelled Israeli positions in the contested Shebaa Farms district using guided missiles and mortar shells. The Israeli military retaliated by striking the origin of the launches.

On Friday, Lebanon reported that cross-border fire from Israel killed a Reuters journalist and injured six others. Israel’s military stated that it was investigating the circumstances of the incident. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed the strike, indicating gunfire and explosions following the incident.
