DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has experienced recent extreme weather conditions, with devastating downpours hitting Dubai and other emirates on April 16. Now, the country is preparing for heavy to moderate rainfall starting Wednesday night.

Earlier this month, heavy thunderstorms struck the UAE, resulting in more than a year and a half’s worth of rain falling on Dubai in just a few hours, causing widespread disruption and flooding. This marked the most significant rainfall in a 24-hour period since records began 75 years ago.

According to Khaleej Times, additional spells of torrential rain are expected from tomorrow, but it is expected to differ from the rainfall witnessed on April 16. The publication cited a weather expert from the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), who stated that the upcoming days will see moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder.

Dr. Ahmed Habib indicated that the challenging weather situation will peak on May 2 and 3. He clarified that while this situation will be different from the previous one, the UAE will experience cloud formation starting from the south of Abu Dhabi in the Al Dhafra area, gradually moving towards internal areas like Al Ain.

As per forecasts from the Met Department, the weather may improve over Friday and Saturday as the low pressure moves southward, resulting in a decrease in cloud cover. However, light to moderate rain may still occur during this period.

Dr. Habib highlighted that the country will be affected by an extension of surface low pressure from the Red Sea, accompanied by humid southeasterly winds.

Moreover, a similar low-pressure extension in the upper atmosphere from the north will impact conditions, leading to cloud migration towards the UAE, starting late Wednesday night.
