KAMPALA: Brian Masaba is set to lead Uganda in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, marking their debut in a senior men’s ICC World Cup in any format. Masaba leads the squad, which notably includes 43-year-old Frank Nsubuga, set to be the oldest player in the tournament. Riazat Ali Shah serves as the vice-captain, while Ronald Lutaaya and Mwebaze are named as traveling reserves.

Uganda’s squad sees five changes from their previous roster, with notable exclusions such as wicketkeeper Cyrus Kakuru and seamer David Wabwire. Fred Achelam takes over wicketkeeping duties, while newcomers Juma Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta join the squad, rewarded for their performance in reaching the semi-finals of the African Games.

The team’s preparation includes a training camp in Sri Lanka, under the guidance of new coach Abhay Sharma. They are gearing up for their first match against Afghanistan in Group C of the T20 World Cup, alongside New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the West Indies, marking a significant milestone for Ugandan cricket.
