ISLAMABAD: In order to keep energy prices stable, the United Kingdom (UK) has agreed with the United States to raise American gas by two times over the next year.

UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that through the plan British consumers would be relieved as energy prices would decrease. Another advantage would be the decrease in Europe’s reliance on Russian energy.

Over the past year, Russia has decreased most of its gas deliveries to Europe since it started the special operation in Ukraine.

The rising energy prices across mainland Europe as affect the United Kingdom even though it has a direct import arrangement of Russian gas.

US liquefied natural gas to be raised

As per the deal, deliveries of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) would be raised to 9-10 billion cubic meters over the next year.

This amount will equal one-eighth of yearly use in the UK.

That is equivalent to about an eighth of the gas the United Kingdom uses every year.

In addition, both countries plan to boost linkages to develop new green and nuclear energy technologies.
