KYIV: Ukraine’s military announced on Saturday that it had successfully destroyed a Russian S-400 missile system, which was utilized in a June attack on Kramatorsk resulting in the death of 13 people, including three children.

According to the Operational North Command, an American-provided HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) was deployed to target the Russian missile system. In a Telegram post, the Operational North Command stated, “The defense forces sought retribution against the occupiers for the bombing of Kramatorsk.”

Russian Missile Strike on Ukraine’s Kramatorsk City

The missile strike occurred on June 27 when Russian forces targeted central Kramatorsk, hitting a bustling restaurant frequented by Ukrainian soldiers on their days off, journalists, and volunteers during peak hours. Among the victims were two 14-year-old twin sisters and a 17-year-old girl. Approximately 60 people were wounded in the attack.

Tragically, Ukrainian writer and war crimes researcher Victoria Amelina succumbed to her injuries on July 1, becoming the latest casualty of the Kramatorsk strike.

Situated approximately 55 kilometers from the front lines and Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, Kramatorsk has served as a significant hub for Ukrainian troops, making it a frequent target for Russian missile attacks.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the missile strike on Kramatorsk as an act of terrorism. The destruction of the Russian S-400 missile system marks a significant retaliatory action by Ukrainian forces, demonstrating their determination to defend against further aggression.
