UN Chief Says Ground Invasion of Rafah Intolerable

UNITED NATIONS: The Secretary-General of the United Nations on Monday warned that the ground offensive of Rafah would be intolerable.

Antonio Guterres calling on Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire deal as early as possible.

Guterres made the remarks as he received Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

He said the opportunity to reach a ceasefire should not be missed and a ground invasion in Rafah would be intolerable because of its devastating humanitarian consequences.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Ministry has announced that it would send a delegation to Cairo on Tuesday morning. This mission aims to resume indirect talks between Hamas and Israel.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari in a statement, said that his country hopes that the talks will help in reaching an agreement for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of prisoners and detainees.

According to the Gaza health ministry over 34,600 Palestinians have been killed mostly women and children in brutal Israeli strikes since October 7. Similarly, more than 78,000 people including women and children have been wounded in Israel’s air strikes.
