ISLAMABAD/UNITED NATIONS: A human rights team of the United Nations has said that Nicaragua’s government has committed gruesome and systematic crimes against humanity and should be subjected to international sanctions.

The three-person body said that the government has committed and is still committing acts of torture, arbitrary detention, and extrajudicial executions since 2018. It said President Daniel Ortega, his wife, and Vice-President Rosario Murillo are participating in the gruesome violations.

Chairman of the team Jan Simon, said that the objective of Nicaragua’s government is to eradicate by different means any dissenting voices in the country.
