UNHCR, Kuwaiti Charity Ink Agreement to Assist Displaced Sudanese Families

LONDON: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Kuwait’s Namaa Charity inked a deal on Tuesday to assist 338 displaced families in Sudan, Arab media reported.

Khaled Al-Mathkoor, head of the Social Reform Society which oversees Namaa Charity, said that the relief and cooperation were deep values in Islam and that the deal aimed to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Sudan in face of violence.

Around 9,000 people have been killed in the power struggle between the Army of Sudan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), while about 5.7 million others have been displaced. According to Martin Griffiths, the UN’s emergency relief coordinator Sudan was facing “one of the worst situations in recent history” with more than 25 million people in need of help.

Namaa Charity’s head Saad AI-Otaibi said that the organization’s health, educational, and relief projects in Sudan were key part of its vision to assist young people and also create a good future for them.

Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi, director of the Department of Charities and Foundations at Kuwaiti Ministry of Affairs, added that the government of Kuwait was keen to continue assisting refugees via global agreements, noting that displacement had reached several nations, including Chad, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
