WASHINGTON: Officials in the US said on Thursday that five former Memphis police officers were charged on allegations including murder and kidnapping. The police officers were sacked from their jobs for their acts during the arrest of Tyre Nichols.

Top police official Mulroy said that the former officers, Demetrius Haley, Tadarrius Bean, Emmit Martin, Justin Smith, and Desmond Mills Jr., have each been charged with the aggravated attack, second-degree murder, two allegations of aggravated kidnapping, one charge of official oppression and two charges of official misconduct.

The official said that all accused played a different role in the incident in question, the acts of all of them resulted in the death of Nichols, and they are all responsible for it.
Mulroy further added that the officers are presently in custody. However, their lawyers did not immediately reply to requests for comments.
