US Conducts Air Strikes in Syria: Report

DAMASCUS: The United States conducted two air strikes in Syria against suspected militia members on Sunday, a US defense official claimed.  Reuters reported that it to be the latest reply to a series of assaults against US forces in Syria and in Iraq.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has made a surprise trip to Baghdad on Sunday after a visit to the occupied West Bank earlier, Arab media reported.

The development comes as recently Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during Blinken’s surprise visit to the country.

US Conducts Air Strikes in Syria: Report

Since the start of the war in Gaza, a series of rocket and drone strikes have targeted army bases hosting American troops in Iraq and Syria.  According to Pentagon about 17 attacks were carried out in Iraq and 12 in Syria from October 17 to November 3. About 2,500 US troops are deployed in Iraq, tasked with giving advice to their Iraqi counterparts in the fight against the Daesh militant group in the region.

US defense official told the Reuters on condition of anonymity that one of the targets was arms storage facility in Syria. The official further said the attacks took place within the past couple of hours and maintained a US review was also underway to determine whether or not the strikes killed or wounded any suspected militia members.
