PESHAWAR: Monica Davis, the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) of the US Consulate Peshawar, visited Mansehra, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, to participate in the US environmental and educational programmes.

According to a news release on Thursday, PAO Davis met with Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohsin Nawaz of Hazara University to discuss the educational opportunities offered by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan and to learn more about the university’s history and function in providing quality education in K.P.

PAO Monica Davis also inspected a U.S. Agency for International Development-funded building with a library, the Faculty of Education, and an auditorium built in 2013.

She inaugurated a new Learning Resource and Writing Centre there, funded by a grant from the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network. Finally, she inaugurated the new Archaeology Museum at Hazara University and expressed her gratitude for the school’s leadership’s involvement in programs aimed at cultural preservation.

In addition, PAO Davis went to the non-profit Global Educational, Economic, and Social Empowerment (GEESE) ‘s office to learn more about their activities. The U.S. Consulate in Peshawar collaborated with GEESE on a grant to raise environmental protection awareness in Mansehra.

As part of the grant, GEESE led campaigns for collecting and correctly disposing of plastic trash and courses on hospitality management and environmental protection awareness for students. More than 7,500 people have benefited from the program, including more than 3,500 Pakistani students.

“I am inspired to be here and see your enthusiasm for protecting the environment. Environmental problems exceed national borders, demanding global solutions. Let’s collaborate to uncover those solutions,” PAO said while taking part in an ongoing awareness program on environment conservation with university students. The project is part of the Pakistan-US Green Alliance framework, which supports both countries in collaboratively addressing their respective economic, energy, and water concerns. —APP
