WASHINGTON: A large number of students, professors and activists from across the Washington have gathered to express solidarity with Palestinian people amid the war on Gaza and asked to end Israel’s human rights abuses in Gaza.
The students were holding banners and play cards and were chanting slogans of “free Palestine”. A large number of students of Georgetown University arrived at a protest at the neighbouring George Washington University (GW) campus.
Students at GW had also established a protest camp on campus, joining the pro-Palestinian protestors sweeping colleges across America.
Students said that they remained very focused on Gaza and Palestine, where the Israeli military has killed over 34,000 people, and mass graves continue to be discovered.
Mimi Ziad , an activist with the Palestinian Youth Movement said that the entire camp was made with every single messaging to be around the genocide in the Gaza Strip and to revolve around centering all of the demands on Gaza. The student said that the camp is all about the Gaza and Palestine.
The demonstrators raised their voices in harmony to the beats of a drum to express support of Palestinian people, denouncing Israel for its serious violations.
Reuters reported that about 550 students have been arrested in the last week across major US universities as police crackdown on peaceful rallies against Israel’s war in Gaza.
Columbia University
Over 100 protesters have been arrested by the Police in Columbia University.
University of Southern California
Police also arrested around 90 people in the University of Southern California. Similarly, dozens of students have been arrested in University of Texas at Austin while fifty percent have been arrested in George Washington University.
Emerson College
Boston police said that around 108 people were arrested at an encampment in the Emerson College.
New York University
Around 133 Pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested on Wednesday.
