DALLAS:  Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna scored as America beat Mexico 2-0 in Sunday’s CONCACAF Nations League final match, giving the US all three titles in the mega event’s history.

Adams unleashed a remarkable long-distance strike just before halftime in the 45th minute, while Reyna capitalized on a loose ball near the edge of the box to slot home in the 63rd minute, cementing the triumph for the USA. This victory adds to their Nations League crowns in 2021 and 2023.

“The feeling of winning titles for your country never diminishes. I deeply appreciate each one,” expressed Reyna. “The camaraderie among the team and the energy we share in camp is unparalleled. Words fail to capture the moment.”

Reyna sees the “Three-peat” as a source of inspiration for the upcoming Copa America, to be hosted on home soil against South America’s formidable teams. “This momentum is invaluable,” he remarked. “With our core group solidified, we understand what it takes to emerge victorious in crucial matches. Hopefully, we can maintain this momentum into the Copa America and clinch another trophy.”

Despite a penalty scare for the Americans in the 73rd minute, overturned by video review due to simulation by Santiago Gimenez, the Mexican fightback was stifled. The match witnessed interruptions due to discriminatory chants from Mexican fans, yet the final whistle signaled the crowning moment for the Americans in Arlington, Texas.

“Our objective throughout the tournament was to progress and seize the opportunity to compete in and win the final, and we accomplished it,” US coach Gregg Berhalter said.

With victories in previous CONCACAF Nations League finals against Mexico and Canada, the US men’s team continues to strengthen its dominance. Although Mexico maintain an overall lead in the rivalry, the US extend its unbeaten streak against Mexico to a record seven matches, with five wins and two draws.

Reflecting on the match, Mexico manager Jaime Lozano acknowledged the superior performance of the Americans and emphasized the importance of learning from such experiences to bounce back swiftly.

Tyler Adams, returning from injury struggles since the World Cup, expressed his eagerness for big matches, having scored his only other international goal against Mexico in a 2018 friendly. Despite Mexico’s staunch defense in the first half, US captain Christian Pulisic found limited opportunities, showcasing the resilience of the Mexican defensive line.
