ISLAMABAD: In the year 2023, USAID has fully supported collaborative projects and programs in various fields to strengthen Pakistan as the aid agency announced to provide a grant of $445.6 million under a five-year bilateral development assistance agreement with the Government.
To curb the challenge of climate change in Pakistan, USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman announced an additional $100 million for Pakistan at the “Global Conference on Climate Change” in Geneva in in January 2023.
The United States had also provided $215 million for flood victims, natural disaster response and food availability in Pakistan during the year 2023. Similarly, the establishment of the Pak-US Green Alliance was an important step towards preventing and reducing the intensity of floods in future. The USAID Deputy Administrator also visited the flood-affected areas. The USAID also supported Pakistan in health sector and provided $30 million in health sector.
USAID to Provide Grant of $445.6 Million to Pakistan in to Assist in Diverse Sectors
The USAID, in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC), distributed more than 600 scholarships to flood-affected students in the year 2023. While under the Sindh Basic Education Program, 100 schools was established with the collaboration of USAID in Sindh province of Pakistan. 80,000 students in Sindh will benefit from education under USAID’s Sindh Basic Education Program by 2024.
USAID launched an extensive campaign with Shahid Afridi to highlight the importance of girls’ education in the year 2023. In July, the United States launched a project called ‘Recharge Pakistan’ through USAID.
Several important business partnership agreements were signed under the Pak-US Diaspora Conferences organized by USAID in 2023. Similarly, grants were given to Pakistan under USAID’s Investment Promotion Activities for the country’s economic development
