Uzbek President to Attend Central Asian Heads of State Meeting Today

DUSHANBE: President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend the consultative meeting of Central Asian heads of state and the meeting of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, which will be held in Dushanbe today (Thursday).

Presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov announced the two-day meeting will have Shavkat Mirziyoyev taking up issues about trade, economic, transport and logistics relations, green economy and energy, water resources in the region, and will also draw attention to the issues of strengthening cooperation between countries in the field of ecology and the joint fight against the negative consequences of climate change.

Twelve ancillary events, such as an economic conference, a scientific forum, a gathering of influential women, a cultural program, and an exhibition of regional nations’ national dishes, are scheduled in conjunction with the advisory meeting.  As part of the summit, a meeting will take place on September 13 with the participation of the transport ministers of the five countries of the region.

The initiative to hold a consultative meeting of Central Asian heads of state was presented by Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2017. The previous summit was held in Kyrgyzstan in July 2022.

The meeting of the Council of Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea will be held for the first time in five years after a break caused by the pandemic. The last time the summit was held in Turkmenistan was in 2018.

During the summit, it is planned to sign a package of documents, the most important of which will be the final statement of the heads of state, said Sherzod Asadov.
