Uzbekistan and China Establishes International Laboratory for Protection of Archeology and Cultural Heritage

SAMARKAND: The Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with China’s Shaanxi province, celebrated the official inauguration of the China-Uzbekistan International Laboratory for Scientific and Technical Archeology and the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

The event, attended by archaeologists, researchers, and students from both countries, was graced by the presence of Zhao Yide, Party Secretary of Shaanxi province, Chang Jiang, Vice President of Northwest University of China, Aziz Abdukhakimov, Rector of the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, and Rustam Qobilov, Deputy Head of Samarkand region.

The collaborative project, initiated by Northwest University of China and conducted under the auspices of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has been established at the Samarkand campus of the International Tourism Academy. This cutting-edge laboratory is equipped with specialized departments dedicated to biochemical research and the examination of animal skeletons. These departments are equipped to facilitate the analysis of archaeological materials discovered within the territory of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan and China’s Commitment to Advancing Archeological Research

Spanning an area of 395 square meters on the 8th floor of the International Tourism Academy, the laboratory is furnished with 90 units of laboratory equipment, comprising 36 different types, with a total value of 1 billion 587 million soums, provided by Northwest University of China. Specialists from Northwest University have played a pivotal role in overseeing the laboratory’s construction and the installation of equipment, adhering to rigorous standards.

During the inauguration event, both parties engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening the ongoing collaboration, enhancing the effectiveness of the project, and setting forth objectives for future endeavors. This significant initiative underscores the commitment of Uzbekistan and China to advancing archeological research and the preservation of cultural heritage, reflecting the rich historical and cultural ties that exist between the two nations.
