BAKU: Uzbekistan is planning to increase exports of agricultural products to 3.5 billion US dollars, local media reported on Saturday.
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of the fruit and vegetable and food industries in the country.
In 2023, Uzbekistan’s agriculture increased by 4.1%, with almost 2 billion US dollars’ worth of exports. However, the export potential has not yet been completely realized. Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid attention to the tasks in the fruit and vegetable industry, directing the Agency for Quarantine and Plant Protection to search for new potential markets and also organize the procurement of products for export.
Plant protection steps have been taken, soil analysis has been conducted, and processes in the field have also been digitalized. In recent years, around 620 phytosanitary permits have been received to export products to around 80 nations, local media reported.
Tasks for the 2024 were also discussed, including increasing exports of agricultural products to 3.5 billion US dollars, expanding the production of fruits and vegetables and grapes.
A modern infrastructure for the export of vegetables and fruits will be developed at the international airports of Ferghana, Tashkent and Samarkand. The President also gave instructions to ensure food security and produce products for export, local media reported.
