Uzbekistan’s President Vows to Remove Trade Barriers with EAEU Nations

TASHKENT: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan participated in the anniversary meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on May 8, underlining Uzbekistan’s keen interest in expanding practical partnerships and engaging in collaborative industry projects within the framework of EAEU development.
During the session, President Mirziyoyev proposed the formulation of a comprehensive plan for joint government activities between Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Economic Commission for the medium term. He also affirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to removing trade barriers and restrictions with EAEU countries, including the initiation of the process for Uzbekistan to adhere to the 2009 Rules for Determining the Country of Origin of Goods.
Furthermore, President Mirziyoyev advocated for the digital exchange of data on goods and vehicles crossing customs borders, the integration of information systems for sanitary and veterinary control, and the adoption of measures for technical regulation convergence and electronic certification.
He emphasized the significance of ongoing dialogue regarding the development of the North-South transport corridor, extending towards South and Southeast Asia and the Middle East. President Mirziyoyev welcomed the positive outcomes of the inaugural meeting of transport ministers on the development of the multimodal route from Belarus to Pakistan via Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, held in Termez.
President Mirziyoyev expressed Uzbekistan’s active support for industrial cooperation projects and localization programs, proposing the development of a dedicated roadmap for this purpose. He also suggested exploring opportunities for business involvement in such projects during the inaugural meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the EAEU Business Council in Samarkand later this year.
Additionally, President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of collaboration with EAEU bodies in various areas such as the development of the Eurasian Agroexpress, the adoption of green and water-saving technologies, the establishment of joint agro-industrial clusters and logistics centers, and cooperation in addressing the consequences of climate change.
