SHARJAH: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that West Indies and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will engage in a three-match One Day International (ODI) series in Sharjah as a warm-up ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

The two-time champions, West Indies, failed to secure automatic qualification for the upcoming World Cup and will now participate in a 10-team tournament, which includes the UAE. The top two teams from the qualifiers will advance to the main event scheduled to be held in India later this year.

Jimmy Adams, CWI’s director of cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the bilateral tour, stating that it will provide valuable preparation for the West Indies players leading up to the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers.

Additionally, Adams highlighted the significance of the tour for players who will not be part of the Zimbabwe tour, as it offers them an opportunity to gain international experience in foreign conditions, contributing to their growth and development.

West Indies-UAE ODI series schedule

The three day-night matches between West Indies and the UAE are scheduled for June 5, 7, and 9. These games will serve as crucial warm-up fixtures for both teams, allowing them to fine-tune their skills and strategies ahead of the World Cup qualifying competition, which is set to commence on June 18.

The series holds importance for West Indies as they aim to secure their place in the main event and challenge for the World Cup title.

The matches will also provide the UAE team with an opportunity to showcase their capabilities against formidable opponents, enhancing their international profile.
