NEW YORK: WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, has rolled out a new feature designed to streamline the process of locating old messages, enhancing user convenience and accessibility.

The latest addition, dubbed the “search by date” feature, aims to simplify message retrieval for users inundated with extensive chat histories. Available for both Android and iPhone users, this innovative update introduces a calendar interface within the app, enabling users to select a specific date to search for messages or media.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced the introduction of the new feature on his WhatsApp channel, emphasizing the company’s dedication to improving user experience. With the calendar feature, users can effortlessly navigate to messages exchanged on a particular day, eliminating the need for manual scrolling through chat archives.

WhatsApp’s Calendar Feature

Upon selecting the calendar icon and specifying the desired date, WhatsApp automatically directs users to messages from that specific day, streamlining the search process. This feature is particularly beneficial for users seeking specific information or memories buried within their chat history.

The calendar feature joins WhatsApp’s recent updates, including various text formatting options and security enhancements, reflecting the platform’s commitment to innovation and user satisfaction.

However, Android users should take note of a recent change regarding chat backups. WhatsApp conversations can no longer be backed up for free on Google Drive, as they now contribute to the user’s storage limit.

To utilize the new calendar feature, users can simply access WhatsApp, select a chat, tap on the name of the person or group, and choose the “Search” option. From there, the calendar interface facilitates seamless navigation to messages from the selected date, offering a more efficient messaging experience for millions of WhatsApp users worldwide.
