ISLAMABAD: In the unpredictable landscape of Pakistani politics, the PML-N emerges once again as a formidable contender, poised to reclaim the reins of power both at the center and in the crucial province of Punjab.

As the electorates are going to the polls, it becomes increasingly apparent that the Sharif family, stalwarts of the PML-N, stand at the forefront, ready to assume the mantle of leadership. Who will sit on the coveted seat of the Prime Minister is not difficult to guess. It may either be Nawaz Sharif or his brother Shehbaz Sharif.

The PML-N’s stronghold in Punjab, the most populous and politically influential province in Pakistan, serves as the linchpin in determining the fate of the central government. The enduring popularity of the Sharif family among the populace of Punjab remains a significant factor. It is a testament to their enduring appeal and the trust they command among the masses.

Looking back at the tenure of the PML-N between 2013 and 2018, one cannot deny the strides made in both economic and security realms. Despite facing formidable challenges upon assuming office, the then PML-N government led by Nawaz Sharif in the center and Shehbaz Sharif in Punjab exhibited resilience and determination in tackling these issues head-on. It was in their tenure that actual work on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) started, which greatly helped address the issue of power load shedding and build state-of-the-art road infrastructure in the form of motorways and expressways, thus bolstering connectivity within the country which will have far-reaching impact in terms of regional connectivity in the years ahead.

On the security front, the PML-N government implemented a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism and insurgency, leading to a marked improvement in the security situation across the country. Through concerted efforts and unwavering resolve, the government succeeded in restoring a sense of peace and stability, paving the way for economic prosperity. In cities such as Karachi, which had become a symbol of terror and extortion, peace was restored. Credit for this definitely goes to the armed forces who gave immense sacrifices to dismantle the terrorists and restore peace in the country.

Fast forward to the present, and Pakistan once again finds itself grappling with multifaceted challenges. Economic uncertainty looms large, exacerbated by soaring energy prices and persistent security concerns. In the lead up to the general elections, there has been increased terror attacks. In such tumultuous times, the people of Pakistan look towards the matured political leadership such as the Sharifs with hope and expectation, hoping they will navigate the nation through these turbulent waters.

However, the road to power is fraught with obstacles, and whosoever forms the next government   must tread carefully in the post-election landscape. It is imperative for the political parties to prioritize political stability, even if it entails engaging with rival parties such as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). By fostering a climate of cooperation and dialogue, we can better address the pressing issues facing the nation, both internally and externally.

Moreover, in the spirit of democracy, it is incumbent upon all political parties to demonstrate maturity and statesmanship. Regardless of the election outcome, whether it be in favor of the PML-N or its rivals, the sanctity of the electoral process must be upheld. Respect for the mandate of the elected government is paramount, ensuring continuity in policies and fostering an environment conducive to foreign investment and economic growth.

As the electoral landscape unfolds, one fundamental principle must remain steadfast: the vision for Pakistan’s development and stability must align with the aspirations of its people, driving the nation towards unprecedented success.
