World Kashmir Awareness Forum Advocates for UN Resolutions Amid Mobile Campaign in New York

NEW YORK: In a proactive move to raise awareness on the Kashmir issue, the World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF), a Washington-based advocacy body, deployed mobile digital advertising trucks around New York City displaying sharp messages.

The campaign, held on January 5, the Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, aimed to emphasize the UN’s commitment to implementing resolutions that ensure the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self-determination.

The digital-led trucks traversed key landmarks in Manhattan, including the United Nations headquarters, Times Square, Freedom Tower, Battery Park, Central Park, Indian Mission, Indian Consulate, and 23rd Streets to 59 Streets between 1st Avenue to 9th Avenue. The electronic screens on the trucks featured messages condemning occupation, advocating for UN resolutions, and highlighting the plight of Kashmiris under Indian forces.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, WKAF Secretary General, noted the effectiveness of mobile digital trucks in reaching a vast audience quickly. Stressing the international dimension of the Kashmir dispute, he urged the UN to take forceful action to restore faith in its ability to bring peace and stability to the world.

Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, President of WKAF, expressed concern over the ongoing human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for UN resolutions to be implemented. He called for an end to the coordinated actions of India and Israel in Kashmir and Palestine.

Dr. Imtiaz Khan from George Washington University Medical Center highlighted the historical significance of January 5, 1949, when the UN Commission for India and Pakistan guaranteed the right of Kashmiris to determine their future through a plebiscite. He underscored the need for the UN to engage and address the ongoing violations.

Sardar Sawar Khan, former Advisor to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, emphasized the importance of UN resolutions as the only international agreement freely negotiated between India and Pakistan regarding the future status of Kashmir.

Sardar Taj Khan, Senior Vice President of Kashmir Mission, USA, reiterated the call for a just and lasting resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The campaign participants appealed to the UN Secretary General to intervene, urging India to rescind the Domicile Law and release political prisoners. They emphasized the vital role of the UN in finding a lasting solution to the 76-year-old Kashmir conflict.
