1.09 Percent Hike in Weekly Inflation, 30.60 Percent on Year-on-Year Basis

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Index (PSI) in Pakistan posted an increase of 1.09 percent and 30.60 percent on a year-on-year basis on 5 January due to a huge surge in prices of both edible and non-edible items, according to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

Prices of food commodities, especially vegetables and wheat flour, have been on the rise over the past few weeks. During the week ended on 5 January, out of 51 commodities, prices of 23 items increased, 9 items decreased and 19 items remain stable.

Inflation in food items

In the same period, prices of boiler chicken increased by 16.9 percent to Rs383 kg, eggs up by 50 percent to Rs276, salt up by 48 percent to Rs49, rice up by 46 percent to Rs146, flour 20 kg bag up by 45 percent to Rs1697, mash daal (pulse) up by 38 percent to Rs371, cooking oil 5kg up by 32 percent to Rs1,309 and ghee 2.5 kg up by 29percent to Rs1,309.

Other food items such as mutton went up by 24 percent to Rs1,448 and garlic up by 20 percent to Rs347.
