12 Govt Dept Owes Rs 7.4m To PESCO

PESHAWAR: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) unveiled the names of 12 government departments that owe a total of Rs 7.436 million in unpaid electricity bills on Thursday.

Official records indicate that the Public Food Laboratory owes over Rs 270,000, the Provincial Anti-Corruption Department owes more than Rs 700,000, Nursing Colleges owe Rs 700,000, the Human Rights Office owes Rs 300,000, the Women’s Hostel owes Rs 649,000, the Directorate General of Excise and Taxation owes Rs 1,344,000, the Public Health Engineering Department owes Rs 840,000, the Forensic Laboratory owes Rs 1,900,000, the Afghan Commissionerate owes Rs 600,000, and the Office of the Fall Manager owes Rs 153,000.

A spokesperson for PESCO stated that, following directives from the Interior Ministry, a joint task force comprising PESCO and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched operations against these defaulting public entities and disconnected their power supply.

The spokesperson added that initially, the Public Food Laboratory paid Rs 150,000, the Directorate of Human Rights paid Rs 153,000, the Office of the Fall Manager KP paid Rs 153,000, the Chief Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department paid Rs 170,000, and the Forensic Lab paid Rs 1.1 million. Subsequently, power supply was restored to these departments.
