SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a fervent appeal to the United Nations and international human rights organizations, urging them to address the dire situation faced by Kashmiri political prisoners incarcerated in jails across occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India.

Describing the condition of these detainees as alarming, an APHC spokesman in Srinagar highlighted the severe persecution they endure for their legitimate political beliefs. He lamented the inhumane treatment and deprivation of basic medical and legal assistance inflicted upon them by jail authorities.

According to the spokesman, the so-called judicial proceedings against these prisoners are protracted to prolong their detention unjustly, in retaliation for their advocacy of the right to self-determination and the pursuit of peace and justice for their homeland.

The statement enumerated the names of numerous detainees, including APHC chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, and many others, who are subjected to appalling conditions in Indian prisons.

Despite facing immense hardship, the APHC spokesman praised the unwavering resolve of these political prisoners, emphasizing that India’s attempts to intimidate them into submission will not deter their commitment to the UN-mandated right to self-determination.

The appeal underscores the urgent need for international intervention to address the egregious violations of human rights and ensure justice for Kashmiri political prisoners, whose plight remains a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for freedom and dignity in the region.
