CAIRO: The Arab League has strongly condemned the ongoing attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian cities and towns in the West Bank, read a statement released on Tuesday.

The statement stated that these attacks, often occurring with the tacit approval and protection of Israeli authorities, are exacerbating the already dire situation and perpetuating a state of impunity for the settlers.

Gamal Roshdy, spokesperson for the league’s secretary-general, said that while attention is rightly focused on the daily atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Gaza, the escalating violence in the West Bank must not be overlooked.

He noted a concerning surge in violent crimes, arson, and property destruction by armed settlers, facilitated by a government that shields them from accountability.

Roshdy cautioned that sanctions imposed by certain countries on settlers are insufficient in addressing the crisis and protecting Palestinian civilians.

Calling for action from the UN Security Council, Roshdy urged measures to end the cycle of violence and impunity in the West Bank and ensure accountability for the settlers’ crimes against Palestinians.

Tensions in the West Bank have escalated since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza on October 7. Recent incidents include a violent incursion by Israeli settlers into a Palestinian village, resulting in damage to property and vehicles.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned these violations and crimes against Palestinians in the West Bank.
