ISLAMABAD: Aseefa Bhutto Zardari — daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari —has been accorded the status of the First Lady of Pakistan following her election as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the first time.

Aseefa Bhutto secured victory unopposed in the Nawabshah by-election seat. Upon her arrival at the Parliament House on Tuesday, she was granted the protocol traditionally reserved for the country’s First Lady.

During the National Assembly session, NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath to Aseefa Bhutto. Typically, the status of First Lady is held by the wife of the President. However, President Zardari became a widower following the assassination of his wife and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007. Notably, Zardari chose not to remarry, leaving the position of First Lady vacant during his first presidential term from 2008 to 2013.

During Zardari’s initial presidency, Aseefa was a teenager, and she is currently 31 years old. This transition in her role signifies a notable shift in her public profile and responsibilities.
