ISLAMABAD: Ghulam Ahmed Azad, the chairman of the Peoples Political League has claimed that August 5, 2019, when the Modi government abolished Kashmir’s special status and imposed a military blockade, is the darkest day in the history of Indian Illegally-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Kashmir Media Service reported Ghulam Ahmed Azad saying in Srinagar that the Hindutva rulers in India were planning to change Kashmir’s demographics by allowing non-state residents to live there, turning it into an entirely Hindu territory.

He claimed that the Kashmiri people’s life had been negatively impacted in every way by India’s unjust, undemocratic, and unconstitutional activities. He lamented the plight of the thousands of Kashmiri youth held in various jails throughout India and the region, especially Hurriyat activists.

Ghulam Ahmed Azad claimed that thanks to the massive deployment of Indian forces, Jammu became the world’s largest prison. According to him, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA) provide armed forces protection. He claimed that the Kashmiri people are suffering at the hands of Indian soldiers, who have declared anarchy and jungle law in Jammu and Kashmir.

He insisted that despite Indian oppression, the spirit of the Kashmiri people was high and that they would never accept India’s unlawful rule over them. In addition, Ghulam Ahmed Azad raised concern over the international community’s lack of response. He argued that the UN should resolve the ongoing Kashmir conflict following its resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. —APP
