Azeri Minister Invites PM Shehbaz for COP-29 Meeting in Baku

Islamabad: The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, has handed over an invitation to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif from the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to attend the COP-29 meeting to be held in Baku in November this year.

According to a PM House statement on Friday, the meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House.

The Prime Minister thanked the President of Azerbaijan for the warm invitation and congratulated him and the Azeri people on Baku’s selection to host the COP-29 event.

He noted this is the most important gathering of international leaders this year to deliberate upon the challenges posed by climate change.

The Prime Minister expressing his views said that Pakistan was one of the most vulnerable countries that had borne the negative impact of climate change in recent years, including the catastrophic floods of 2022.

He emphasized the need for urgent action to enhance climate resilience. He assured Azerbaijan of Pakistan’s full cooperation and support in making the COP-29 a success.

The Prime Minister while accepting the invitation said he looked forward to participating in COP-29 where he would also have the opportunity to meet with President Ilham Aliyev on the bilateral relationship, trade and investment.

The Prime Minister also reiterated his invitation to President Aliyev to pay an official visit to Pakistan.

The Azeri Minister during the meeting thanked the Prime Minister for receiving him and offering Pakistan’s support for the successful organization of the COP-29.
