SRINAGAR: Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the National Conference, has remarked that the decisions made by the BJP-led Indian government on August 5, 2019, regarding the revocation of the special status of Indian Illegal Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), have intensified resentment and alienation in the region.

As reported by Kashmir Media Service, Omar Abdullah talked to reporters in Srinagar, highlighting Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement indicating that the BJP would not nominate candidates from Kashmir in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. Abdullah sees this as evidence of the BJP’s failure to garner support in the region following the events of August 5, 2019.

He expressed puzzlement over why the BJP contested the 2019 elections in Jammu and Kashmir but now refrains from doing so, interpreting it as an admission of the BJP’s inability to win over the people since August 5, 2019.

Abdullah noted that while the BJP may not be directly participating in electoral activities in Kashmir, it still influences proceedings from behind the scenes.

He emphasized his broader struggle against what he sees as New Delhi’s oppressive rule and those aligned with the BJP, stating, “My fight is not against individuals but against the oppression of New Delhi and its proxies.”
