BRASÍLIA: Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has held discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who leveled accusations against Western nations for their collective stance against Moscow regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

The meeting between Lula and Lavrov took place after Lula’s meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Notably, no statements were issued following the talks between Lula and the Russian diplomat. Lula has taken a stance against the US-led efforts to isolate Russia for its military intervention in Ukraine, contending that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Western nations also bear responsibility for the conflict.

Lavrov’s visit to Brasilia comes amidst his Latin American tour, following his participation in a G20 ministerial meeting held in Rio de Janeiro. During this event, Lavrov criticized certain Western nations for attempting to prioritize Ukraine as the sole issue on the agenda.

Lavrov remarked to Russian media outlets, “Some of our Western colleagues at the G20 ministerial meeting tried to accuse Russia and dominate the agenda with Ukraine-centric discussions.” He further noted that such efforts lacked support from many developing and Global South countries.
