China Pays Tribute to Late Sartaj Aziz

BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wan Wenbin on Thursday expressed profound condolences regarding the demise of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz central leader Sartaj Aziz, who served as Pakistan Finance Minister, Foreign Minister, and National Security and Foreign Affairs Advisor to the prime minister.

In a regular briefing, Spokesperson Wan Wenbin acknowledged Sartaj Aziz as a senior politician, strategist, and economic expert of Pakistan, emphasizing his longstanding and dedicated commitment to the prosperity of the country. He described Sartaj Aziz as an old and cherished friend of the Chinese people.

He said that throughout his lifetime, Sartaj Aziz worked diligently and passionately to foster the development of China-Pakistan relations, making notable contributions to the friendly cooperation between the two nations. The spokesperson particularly highlighted Aziz’s significant role in the initiation and construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

“We express our deep condolences over the passing away of Mr. Aziz and extend our sincere sympathies to his family,” said the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson.
