BEIJING: China expressed hope on Monday that Mexico and Ecuador would resolve their disputes in accordance with international law.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that Mexico and Ecuador would hopefully address their disputes appropriately, in compliance with international law.

Lin’s comments came in response to reports of Mexico suspended its ties with Ecuador following Ecuadorian police’s incursion into Mexico’s embassy in Quito to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who had been granted political asylum.

Mexico has formally lodged a protest against Ecuador’s government with the International Court of Justice over the police raid.

Lin emphasized China’s desire for Mexico and Ecuador, both nations in Latin America and the Caribbean, to manage their disagreements with mutual respect and adherence to international law and the fundamental principles governing international relations.
